WTA SAN JOSE: AZARENKA TO BEAT MUGURUZA @ 2.43

WTA SAN JOSE

AZARENKA TO BEAT MUGURUZA @ 2.43

Azarenka leads the head to head 1-0 having won two tie breaks when they met in Miami in 2016. Both are aggressive players but where Azarenka really stands out is her return game and this will put huge pressure on Muguruza here as shown by the return statistics. Muguruza has not played since a poor Wimbledon but Azarenka came through albeit a struggle against Bondarenko in three tight sets so for me she has the advantage, she has not played a lot of tennis due to a custody battle with her child but will be looking to make the American hard court swing count as she can play

                                          HOLD SERVE                                 BREAK SERVE

MUGURUZA                     72.9%                                              40.3% 29-12(140-74)
 AZARENKA                     73.8%                                               51.9% 7-2(282-94)

WTA WASHINGTON

BOGDAN TO BEAT KUZNETSOVA @ 2.63

Kuznetsova beat Ahn easily dropping just 3 games but it was more about Ahn totally hopeless performance than Kuznetsova playing lights out tennis and she still does not convince me that she is a great form and this will be. A big test for her. Bogdan done us a nice favour by beating Makarova who still flatters to deceive, she playing good solid tennis and if she can perform to that same level here then she will make this a very tight encounter and 2.63 is far too big a price

                                        HOLD SERVE                                    BREAK SERVE

KUZNETSOVA                66.7%                                                 42.1% 4-7(314-161) BOGDAN                        67.3%                                                 39.3% 19-11(67-38)

STOLLAR TO BEAT VEKIC @ 3.70

I am going for a bit of a left field pick here based mainly on potential which can be dangerous but the odds are just too generous. Stollar is a player of great potential and she is working her way back up the rankings after injury, she came through her first match here in straights sets. Vekic is another player who was highly touted as being the next big thing but she lost her way for a couple of season after a breakthrough when she was 16 but now she is looking more confident, she beat our pick Dolehide in straight sets. Both have good serve but Stollar despite the stats does have the better return game with variation and this is the area I think she can exploit tonight as vekic is very much an up and down hit it kind of player without too much variety and although her serve is her main weapon if opponents get water it then she can struggle to break back. Odds are far too generous on Stollar here

                                     HOLD SERVE                                         BREAK SERVE

STOLLAR                    65.4%                                                       36.6% 13-11(28-24)

VEKIC 64.8% 38.5% 13-12(129-82)
