First grand slam of the season gets underway Sunday and my first round bets are below.
STOSUR TO BEAT PUIG @ 11-10
Stosur Leads the head to head 4-1 and while she has historically underperformed in her home country, now the pressure is off and she is no longer talked about as a serious contender then she should be able to relax and always with Sam it is about her big serve and getting her forehand working. Puig is horrendously erratic and cannot be considered at odds on.
CIBULKOVA TO BEAT KANEPI @ 11-10
Kanepi leads the head to head 3-1, Both have started the season well and should arrive here in perfect condition, Cibulkova hits the ball flat and hard and very attacking and I suspect this will cause Kanepi problems as her movement can be exposed at times. They have not played for 5 years and Cibulkova is a very different player now and she has played well here in the past and it is a venue she is very comfortable at.
KONTAVEIT TO BEAT KRUNIC @ EVENS
Krunic leads the head to head 1-0. Kontaveit hits the ball incredibly hard and I feel will have too much power for Krunic who is steady if unspectacular but to put it simply she will rely on mistakes from Kontaveit who if she can keep her errors low should be able to hit through Krunic.
SAKKARI TO BEAT SINIAKOVA @ 2-1
Sakkari leads the head to head 1-0. Siniakova has been playing well but she can let her head get down if things don’t go her way and Sakkari is a very consistent and steady player who will put lots of balls back into play and this will cause Siniakova severe problems as she can lack consistency.
KENIN TO BEAT GOERGES @ 5-1
Goerges has improved her consistency but is still capable of throwing a dodgy performance in now and then and Kenin’s record on hard court of 60 wins to 33 losses is impressive and I am more than happy to take a chance of an upset at value odds.
BOGDAN TO BEAT MLADENOVIC @ 11-10
Mladenovic has not won a game so far this season and her confidence looks very low, Bogdan is a player that does a lot of things well without being outstanding but her consistency should prove too much for an out of form Mladenovic.
