WTA St Petersburg

ST PETERSBURG

ZVONAREVA TO BEAT BERTENS @ 5-2

Zvonareva is the better hard court player and won indoor courts her record is 61-43 compared to Bertens 57-42 and on hard courts in general the records of both is hardly comparable with Bertens 87-76 compared to Zvonareva 269-125 but simply put Zvonareva has had serious injuries, became a mother and has returned to the tour. If she is anywhere near the player she was then she wins this and watching her in the Aussie Open she while not at the highest level she was still playing decent tennis.

BARTHEL TO BEAT CORNET @ 13-8

Barthel’s record on indoor hard courts reads 103-51 and she is very much at home indoors as there is nothing to distract her, she has quite a high ball toss and her serve is a big weapon so outside the elements can cause her problems but inside she is able to get the point off in an aggressive fashion and get on the front foot. Cornet struggles as her record suggests 67-50 and I expect Barthel to have too much power for cornet here.

WTA TAIPEI

HIBINIO TO BEAT STOSUR @ 9-4

Hibinio leads the head to head 1-0, Stosur has deteriorated quite heavily over the last 18 months to a point where her serve is less effective and that made up most of her game, Neither player are great on indoor hard courts Stosur 36-36 and Hibino 8-8 but the difference is Hibino is improving and Stosur is very much a confidence player and that is a huge concern.

PARMENTIER TO BEAT NARA @ 6-5

Parmentier is very good on indoor hard courts and her serve will be the deciding factor here

BOGDAN TO BEAT PENG @ 5-4

Peng has only played one match so far this season in the OZ Open losing in straight sets to Kostyuk so I think she will be very slow off the mark here and still lacking in match time, Bogdan has done well for me this season so far and played well reaching the third round at the Australian Open and her consistency should see her come through against Peng
