KONTAVEIT TO BEAT OSTAPENKO @ 6-5
Kontaveit leads the head to head 1-0, both these players hit the ball fearsomely hard. Ostapenko is most happy on clay as her reads show but Kontaveit has a win loss record on hard courts of 83-49 compared to Ostapenko’s 49-38 and that swings it for me.
SHARAPOVA TO BEAT KERBER @ 5-4
Sharapova leads the head to head 5-4 and has not lost a set on outdoor hard courts in their two meetings. Kerber has looked back to her best having won Sydney and got to this stage but certainly Sharpova is a different class of opponent with her aggressive return bound to put Kerber’s serve under pressure and that is where I think this match lies. Kerber’s weak second serve will get pounded by Sharapova and might cause her to cut back her first serve a bit to get a higher percentage in and that will play right into Sharapova’s hands.
